My Proverbs 31 Wife

Today is our 9-year wedding anniversary. It’s hard to put into words what I feel for this woman that is my wife. It’s best to let Proverbs 31 explain:

An excellent wife who can find? (Me!)

She is far more precious than jewels. (I wouldn’t know what jewels look like anyway, but I’m positive she’s more precious than they are)

The heart of her husband trusts in her. (completely)

She does him good and not harm, all the days of her life. (unless she’s picking bumps on my back)

She seeks wool and flax, and works with willing hands. (Well, I can’t say that I’ve ever seen these items on her grocery list, but the willing hands part–definitely)

She is like the ships of the merchant; she brings her food from afar. (Yes. Trader Joe’s is all the way across town. Aldi is far too)

She rises while it is still night (well … it’s night somewhere) and provides food for her household and portions for her maidens (I..don’t..think…having maidens is a good idea at this point).

She considers a field and buys it; With the fruit of her hands she plants a vineyard. (there is a field next door to us.  And have you seen our straw garden?!)

She dresses herself with strength and makes her arms strong. (oh heck yea! have you seen her guns lately?)

She perceives her merchandise is profitable. (yep. she can craigslist anything!)

She puts her hand to the distaff and her hands hold the spindle. (not sure what a distaff is, and pretty sure we don’t have a spindle, but she’s darn good at fixing things with a glue gun)

She opens her hand to the poor and reaches our her hands to the needy. (Yes!!! She has the biggest heart I’ve ever seen. She drips with compassion, empathy and goodwill. She embodies the Gospel. She takes seriously the commandment to care for orphans and widows)

She is not afraid of snow for her household, for all her household are clothed in scarlet. (Yep. We love snow at our house. And she always dresses weather appropriately. Flip-flops year round!!)

She makes bed coverings for herself; her clothing is fine linen and purple. (If bed coverings means that she likes cuddling up with a blanket and a hot cup of coffee while she studies the word and spends time in prayer in the morning, then yes!! She doesn’t own much purple, however. Rainy does though)

Her husband is known in the gates when he sits among the elders of the land. (If by that the Proverb means that my elderly neighbors, Ed and Lois, like to chat with me, then yes! And if by that, it means that Tasha has a more popular blog than I do, then yes!)

She makes linen garments and sells them; she delivers sashes to the merchant. (Well, umm…. she wrote an awesome book and has delivered quite a few!!)

Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she laughs at the time to come. (She is strong and brave and trusts the Lord with our future. We laugh alot in our house)

She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue. (Just read her blog and ask our kids – she is full of  wisdom nuggets)

She looks well to the ways of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. (We’re in good shape with her around. Just don’t come around our house when she’s away and I’m in charge. You may think that the Rolesville tornado from a few weeks ago struck down in our living room)

Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her. (Me and the kids are her biggest fans and cheerleaders. There’s always room for improvement on my part with praising her. But I am sooooo proud of her!!)

Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all. (Yes, my dear! You blow them all out of the water)

Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. (She is charming. She is beautiful. But more than all of that she fears the Lord, and she models it for our family)

Give her the fruit of her hands, and let her works praise her in the gates. (Let’s harvest that garden, babe!)
